A small school in eastern Slovakia in the district of Stará Ľubovňa, located in the building of the Redemptorist Monastery, has three organizational units: a special elementary school, a vocational school, and a secondary vocational school. The school has a boarding school that provides accommodation, meals, and extracurricular education for students staying for a week. The school educates students with health disabilities in variants A, B, and C, as well as students with autism or other pervasive developmental disorders with mental disabilities.
Teachers, educators, assistants, assistant educators, and vocational training instructors, as well as other course participants from all over Slovakia, sat down at their desks every day. By completing the course, the school staff is ready to implement the instrumental awareness method into the teaching process in the 2025/2026 school year as a pilot project. Time will tell how the "seed planted will grow and bear fruit." Our goal for the next school year is to include the instrumental awareness method as a new subject in the school curriculum and thus participate in the inclusion of students with disabilities in special schools.
